Abstract Considering the nonlinear and non-stationary characteristics of transformer vibration acceleration signal obtained from surface tank, variational mode decomposition (VMD) theory is introduced. Simulation analysis shows that VMD has obvious advantages over EMD when needle frequency similar to signal.
